I’ve written the story of how I created this blog so many times by now that I feel like I’m just repeating something everyone already knows. But in case you’re a new reader (hi!), or don’t remember why I created SherinaSpeaks, here’s the short version: I chose to start a blog as part of a semester-long project for my grade 10 English class, and I continued blogging when the semester finished. Almost five years later, here I am, still blogging and loving it.
My blog has changed a lot since it started. I’ve focused on different topics, gone through different weekly blogging schedules and customized my blog with various themes. All in all, blogging has helped me find my voice. Through studying journalism and meeting new, creative friends I’ve also started to develop my own brand through my blog. So I decided it was time to “rebrand” SherinaSpeaks—to give it the new feel that I’ve been steadily working towards since I created this blog all those years ago.
As you read this, I’ve officially redesigned my blog, complete with a new layout, new logo and new posts. I’ve been working on this for the past couple months, and I’ve had so much fun sketching out new ideas and experimenting with new designs.
I actually started planning to rebrand my blog back in December. It’s been on my mind for a while, and it took some time to put my plans into action. But even as I got to work picking themes, colours and categories, I noticed that I didn’t feel like I was in a rush to make all of these changes. I was really excited, but part of me was also, strangely, nervous. I had all of the elements ready to go—logos created, about page written, items on my rebrand to-do lists checked off—but I kept telling myself that I wasn’t quite ready to publish my changes.
As I thought about this, I reminded myself of a quote from Marissa Mayer, former president and CEO of Yahoo!: “I always did something I was a little not ready to do. I think that’s how you grow.”
I might not have felt completely ready to change around my blog design, but I also didn’t feel entirely ready to create my blog back in 2013. Back then, I sat in front of my computer and, despite being unsure about a lot of aspects of blogging, took the risk. Now, I’m incredibly glad that I decided to create this blog—and I hope that by pushing myself to grow through rebranding my blog, I’ll look back on this as another opportunity for growth.
I’m so excited that SherinaSpeaks has a fresh look, and to celebrate I’ll be posting a new article each day this week. Stay tuned for lots of new content in the next seven days and beyond (and if there’s a topic you’d like to see me write about, let me know in the comments!). Make sure you’re following me so that you don’t miss any of my upcoming posts.
I’ve also launched a Facebook page for my blog, which is something that I’ve been meaning to do for ages. As always, you can follow my blog through email, Bloglovin’ or WordPress to keep up to date with my new posts, and Facebook just adds one more way to stay up to date. You can also email me: sherinaspeaks(at)gmail.com.
Since I started this blog in 2013, I’ve learned so much. I can’t wait to continue learning and sharing my writing with you. Here’s to many more years of blogging!
